Highest-possible safety rating for the new Kia EV9 in latest Euro NCAP safety tests
Kia’s all-new EV9 has been awarded the maximum five-star safety rating following extensive testing by Euro NCAP, Europe’s leading independent safety testing organisation. The all-electric seven-seat SUV achieved the highest possible rating, further demonstrating the vehicle’s impressive safety credentials.
The EV9 was assessed in four categories and performed to a high standard throughout the test process. It achieved 84 per cent for adult occupant protection, 88 per cent for child occupant protection, 76 per cent for vulnerable road users including pedestrians, and 83 per cent in the ‘safety assist’ category, which rates a vehicle based on the availability of a comprehensive suite of crash avoidance technologies.
Kia collects prestigious 2024 World Car of the Year and 2024 World Electric Vehicle awards
The Kia EV9 has achieved a remarkable dual victory at the 2024 World Car Awards. Revealed during a live announcement at the World Car Awards ceremony at the New York International Auto Show, the EV9 secured prestigious titles for both World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle.
Selected by a jury of 100 distinguished automotive journalists representing 29 countries, the World Car Awards recognised the Kia EV9’s innovative design, spacious seven-seat interior, and competitive price point.
Two wins in the World Car Awards add to an already impressive haul of accolades for the Kia EV9. Since its introduction as Kia’s first dedicated three-row EV SUV, the EV9 has collected a number of prizes, including winning ‘Family Car of the Year’ at the 2023 TopGear.com Awards, overall ‘Car of the Year’ and ‘Best Premium Electric Car’ at the 2024 DrivingElectric Awards; and most recently being named ‘UK Car of the Year 2024’ by a panel of 30 of the UK’s top automotive, business, and tech-focussed journalists.
Kia EV9 has been crowned ‘UK Car of the Year 2024’
The Kia EV9 has been named ‘UK Car of the Year 2024’. The Awards celebrate the best new vehicles available to UK customers today across eight categories.
The UK Car of the Year jury is made up of 30 journalists working across the UK on automotive, business and tech publications. Eligible cars for the awards must have been launched within the past 12 months.
In addition to winning the overall award, the EV9 secured victory in the hard-fought ‘Large Crossover’ category. Judges praised the EV9 for several factors; in particular its innate practicality, modern design, and long electric driving range.
“The uberpractical Kia EV9 could be the vehicle that gets more drivers out of their petrol or diesel car than any other model. Seven seats, loaded with technology, premium quality and enough miles from the battery to cure almost every case of range anxiety – plus it’s fantastic to drive, too,” said John Challen, co-chairman, UK Car of the Year Awards. “The fact that nearly half of our judging panel chose the Kia as the UK Car of the Year 2024 is a massive vote of confidence in what is a seriously impressive and hugely appealing car.”
The Kia EV9 named 2024 What Car? ‘Best Electric 7-Seater’
The all-new Kia EV9, on-sale in the UK since early January 2024, was awarded the ‘Best Electric 7-Seater’ prize. A sub-category of the ‘Best 7-Seater’ award, the EV9 was praised by the judges for its capabilities and value compared to rivals: “Most seven-seat electric SUVs are either ludicrously expensive or not as practical as you might expect, but the Kia EV9 is different, offering comfortable seating for seven adults in a package that while far from cheap - is well priced next to rivals. And with a generous official range, the EV9 can tackle long trips without you having to worry about where the next charge is coming from.”
The Kia EV9 has been named ‘Family Car of the Year’ at the 2023 TopGear.com Awards.
The fully electric EV9 - Kia’s new flagship SUV impressed Top Gear’s judges thanks to its combination of a family-friendly space, long driving range, in-car technology, and cutting-edge design and sustainability features. The EV9 is featured in the latest issue of BBC Top Gear Magazine, an issue dedicated to the best, most desirable cars in the world. A ‘Meet the Winners’ film, including the EV9, is also featured on the TopGear.com website.
Ollie Kew, Deputy Editor of Top Gear, commented: “We like the EV9's relaxed attitude and breezy, surfin’ USA demeanour. We like the nothing-to-prove reverse snobbery of its badge and that it’s less irritating to operate than a VW ID.Buzz, and travels significantly further on a charge. We like its Bentayga-esque massaging, heated, ventilated seats, its multitude of stowage cubbies, the simplicity of its automatic seat folding, and how it looks a bit like Iron Man’s head. It’s one of 2023’s most interesting cars not because of what it can do, but because of what it represents. Twinning going green and upmarket isn't easy, but the EV9 pulls it off with style.”
Kia EV9: WhatCar? 2023 Readers’ Choice Award
The Kia EV9 was voted winner of the ‘Readers’ Choice’ award. This trophy is voted for by What Car? readers, who named the upcoming EV9 as their most highly anticipated new car of 2023.
“We asked What Car? readers to name the upcoming model that they're most excited about from a 14-car shortlist, with each of the contenders given equal promotion via our website and social media channels. But despite this, the Kia EV9 emerged victorious after attracting more than twice as many votes as the second-placed car.
"This is the second time in three years that Kia has won this award, with the EV6 taking top spot in 2021. If the EV9 turns out to be as good as that car, it will be truly special.”
The Kia EV9 is due to be revealed later in 2023, with UK deliveries set to commence towards the end of the year. The large electric SUV is the next EV due to be launched under the brand’s ‘Plan S’ long-term strategy for electrification leadership. It follows the Kia EV6 (named What Car? Car of the Year in 2022) and all-new Kia Niro EV as one of nine Kia EVs due to launch in the UK between 2021 and 2027.
