The Kia EV3, alike the Sportage, has repeated its category win from last year being named ‘Small Electric SUV of the Year’, emphasising its strength in one of the most competitive segments in the UK market. The model offers space for five in a compact package, with Kia’s Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) allowing cavernous interior space and a flat floor, further benefiting second-row passengers.
“Since winning this award last year, the Kia EV3 has faced a tranche of talented new rivals, and yet it undoubtedly remains the best car of its kind,” commented the What Car? judges. “For starters, it’s remarkably practical for a relatively compact car, and has the sort of lofty driving position that SUV buyers love. Meanwhile, the suspension soaks up bumps and potholes effortlessly, and even the cheapest version has a good range
Throughout 2025, its first full year of sales, the EV3 was Kia’s best-selling EV in the UK with 11,188 new EV3s registered, making up almost 10% of the brand’s total sales in the UK. Kia’s fastest-selling EV to date also became one of the country’s top-three best-selling EVs within the retail market.
The Kia EV3 continues to set the standard in the EV market having collected two major award wins at the Autotrader Drivers’ Choice Awards 2025: ‘Best Mainstream Electric Car’ and overall ‘Car of the Year’.
The EV3 impressed UK customers for offering great value and a complete, refined package, with owners naming the model both the EV that represents the best of the best in terms of ‘mainstream’ vehicles, and the best car overall of 2025.
Erin Baker, Autotrader’s Editorial Director, said: “It may be Kia’s most affordable current EV on sale, but the EV3 still manages to pack a premium punch. It scored top marks for the quality of its features which, combined with eye-catching looks and a great driving experience, has made the EV3 a massive hit with its owners. One told us: ‘This was my first ever electric car, and it really stood out among all the other EVs, particularly within my price bracket. It’s quirky, futuristic, packed full of brilliant features, and it’s really easy to drive. Plus, I can get the whole family in it with room to spare. We absolutely love it.’ Congratulations Kia on a very well-deserved win.”

The EV3, which commenced sales late in 2024, has leapt out of the blocks faster than any Kia EV to come before it, holding the title of Kia’s fastest selling EV of all time. The model, which is offered in a trio of well-equipped trim levels and a choice of two battery options, the largest of which offers a range of up to 375 miles on a single charge* - currently holds the position of the best-selling EV within the UK retail market so far in 2025.

The Kia EV3 has been hailed the outright winner at the 2025 World Car Awards. Revealed during a live announcement at the World Car Awards ceremony at the 2025 New York International Auto Show, the Kia EV3 secured the prestigious title of 2025 World Car of the Year.
“It is an immense honor for everyone at Kia that the EV3 has been awarded the 2025 World Car of Year title. This award highlights Kia’s global leadership in providing design-led, technologically advanced, sustainable mobility solutions and how the EV3’s class-leading attributes redefine the user experience for customers worldwide,” said Ho Sung Song, President and CEO at Kia.
The 2025 World Car Awards were judged by a panel of 96 highly respected international automotive journalists from 30 countries. The EV3's victory brings Kia’s total of wins at the World Car Awards to six since 2020.
The Kia EV3 has been named ‘UK Car of the Year 2025’. The award follows EV3 topping the ‘Small Crossover’ category on 20 February, which automatically shortlisted the brand’s latest EV for the overall prize of ‘UK Car of the Year 2025’.
The UK Car of the Year Awards are an independent set of awards, voted for by a 31-strong jury of industry experts, working across the UK on automotive, business and tech publications. The EV3’s success follows in the footsteps of its larger sibling, the EV9, which took home the trophies for ‘Large Crossover’ and overall ‘UK Car of the Year’ in last year’s awards.
This recognition continues the EV3s string of success since its launch at the end of 2024, having also being named a finalist for European Car of the Year and a finalist for the 2025 World Car Awards, with the final three nominees due to be announced later in March.
The Kia EV3 has been named overall Car of the Year for 2024 at the annual Electrifying.com Awards.
The Electrifying.com Awards are judged by the publication’s expert team of road testers, with awards given to the most significant electric vehicles and innovations. The Kia EV3 follows in the footsteps of its larger sibling, the EV9, which was named Large Electric Family Car of the Year at last year’s Electrifying.com Awards.
Ginny Buckley, Founder and CEO of Electrifying.com, said: “As the electric experts we consider Kia to be one of the most innovative and exciting car brands around, and we believe the EV3 is a game-changer in the electric car market. In terms of style, range, space, tech and sheer value for money, it stands head and shoulders above everything else in its class. We think the EV3 will give buyers new to electric cars the confidence they need to make the switch, and it’s the clear winner of our Car of the Year title for 2024.”
The clever new Kia EV3 is our Car of the Year 2025. With great design, high levels of technology and a long driving range, it deserves to be on every buyers’ shortlist. Discover why it won by checking out our review and video:
The Kia EV3 is a compact electric SUV that offers a long range, handsome styling and loads of tech. It's set to take on rivals including the Volvo EX30, VW ID.3 and Jeep Avenger, and we absolutely love it. Electrifying.com
The Kia EV3 is the brand’s latest electric vehicle to hit the roads in the UK, with first customer deliveries commencing in Q4 last year. Kia’s most affordable EV to date, the model offers class-leading space and seating for five and a range of up to 375 miles on a single charge1. Its innovative driving technologies, including its new regenerative braking system and active air flap technology, also serve to maximise efficiency in all conditions.
The judging panel, made up of the magazine’s team of expert road testers, commented: “The EV3 is one of the most practical cars in its class, offering enough passenger and boot space to embarrass some models from the class above. What's more, it has an excellent driving position that puts you well above the road - just as an SUV should. All of this is combined with soft suspension that's great at soaking up bumps and potholes.”
This award represents the latest in a steady stream of accolades for the EV3 from a number of UK publications, continuing the model’s momentum as it commences its first full year of sales.
The Kia EV3 has won the ‘Small Crossover’ category at the UK Car of the Year (UKCOTY) Awards 2025, automatically nominating it to compete against other category winners for the overall ‘UK Car of the Year 2025’ award. The overall winner will be announced on Thursday 6 March 2025 after final judging is completed.
Well-received by the UKCOTY judges, comments included: “Distinctive, spacious, safe, competitively-priced and easy to drive, the Kia EV3 is one of the best all-round, family-friendly EVs on the market and it comes with a seven-year warranty,” Gareth Herincx, UKCOTY juror.
Fellow UKCOTY juror Alex Grant said, “The EV3 takes all of the best bits of the EV9 and distils them into a product targeting one of the UK’s biggest-volume segments. It’s futuristic to look at but intuitive to use, rides and handles UK roads brilliantly and offers a usefully long range of almost 400 miles. A very easy way for families to go electric.”
Despite only being launched the Kia EV3 has won its third major award. This winning streak continues by receiving the coveted ‘Best Car Below €40,000’ title at the 2024 Golden Steering Wheel Awards, one of the most important awards in the German automotive industry.
Robin Hornig, chief editor of AUTO BILD commented: “A golden start for the new Kia EV3! It offers a lot of features and solid ranges at an attractive price – a convincing offer for those who value price and performance. And it's a safe investment, because Kia offers a 7-year manufacturer's warranty on the EV3, which covers both the vehicle and the traction battery.”
The recognition for the EV3 at the Golden Steering Awards follows wins at the Electrifying.com Awards, for ‘Car of the Year for 2024’, and at the News UK Motor Awards, for ‘Small SUV/Crossover of the Year’. Read On ››
The Kia EV3 has collected its first UK award, being named ‘Small SUV/Crossover of the Year’ at the annual News UK Motor Awards.
The News UK Motor Awards are judged by a panel of News UK’s expert automotive journalists including Rob Gill from The Sun, Will Dron from Driving.co.uk, Nick Rufford from Sunday Times magazine and David Green from LUXX magazine.
Rob Gill, The Sun’s Motors Editor, commented: “This will be the first of many awards for the hugely impressive Kia EV3. Quite possibly the tipping point for families wondering whether to go electric next. The big battery version at £36k genuinely nudges 375 miles. Much the same price and range as a petrol car. Except the Tardis-like cabin kills similarly-priced petrol cars. Excellent work, Kia.”
The Kia EV3 is the latest in a line-up of highly decorated fully electric vehicles from Kia. Offering a range of up to 375 miles on a single charge^, comfortable space for five adults, a vast array of onboard technologies traditionally reserved for the larger vehicle segments, the Kia EV3 is the new standard bearer for affordable electric motoring.
