Switching to a Kia Electric or Hybrid vehicle is easier than you might think. Kia offers a broad array of models with Hybrid, Plug-In Hybrid or Electric powertrains. Discover their benefits and which is best for you.
Kia Electric and Hybrid cars use electric power or a combination of electric and petrol power to drive the engine. This makes them more economical to run with lower emissions than a traditional petrol driven car.
So, whether you want to reduce your carbon footprint, or simply wish to lower the cost of running your car, there are plenty of reasons to go electric and making the switch is much simpler than you might think.
Because Hybrid cars use an electric motor as an additional source of power to support the combustion less fuel is used, which in turn cuts down your running costs.
For company car drivers, battery-electric cars are subject to a lower company car BIK tax, which for battery-electric cars is 2% in 2022/23. All hybrid powertrains also benefit from lower BIK tax rates and still have the potential to save you thousands of pounds compared to a traditional petrol or diesel equivalent.
Electric cars are incredibly quiet, making for a more relaxing atmosphere. Driving is easy too, because electric motors produce maximum torque at all revs, so acceleration is instant. While all Hybrids handle just as smoothly as conventional cars, with the added bonus that they are extremely quiet in electric mode. And the shift between the two powertrains is so seamless that it is practically inaudible.
There are no exhaust emissions from the tailpipe of an electric vehicle - in fact, it doesn’t even have a tailpipe - this is particularly helpful for improving air quality in urban areas. Hybrid cars, in general, also emit less pollution than standard vehicles. For example, in traffic or at a red light the engine automatically switches off and uses the electric motor to restart or reboot the engine.
Electric cars also have far fewer moving parts than a traditional petrol or diesel engine, and therefore require less work when being serviced. Hybrid powertrains reduce engine strain, while regenerative braking decreases brake wear which can prolong the life of parts.
As one of the pioneers in EV technology we’ve had time to refine and improve our EV range.
Every Kia car comes with a class leading 7-year 100,000 mile warranty, including the battery. So you get 7 years of driving pleasure, 7 years of lower running costs and 7 years peace of mind.
Our Electric cars use a battery to drive a powerful electric motor, while our Hybrids use a combination of electric motor and conventional engine.
Kia electric vehicles, or EVs, run solely on electricity. This offers quiet operation, zero tailgate emissions and breath-taking performance.
Electric vehicle technology has come on leaps and bounds. With technologies like our e-GMP platform, EVs can go long distances and charge in a matter of minutes thanks to a fast-expanding and easy-to-access network of public charging stations.
A battery electric vehicle is better for the environment than a petrol or diesel car, cheaper to run, and simple to own.
Kia plug-in hybrid vehicles, or PHEVs, allow you to drive in electric mode on most of your short journeys, while allowing you to travel much further using both petrol and electricity. They are fitted with a relatively large batter which can be charged from an external source such as a home or public charge point.
When starting from a fully charged battery, Kia PHEVs can run in fully electric mode for journeys of up to 40 miles depending on the model. On longer journeys, they boast a range similar to that of conventional cars by using their engine and battery in tandem.
Kia hybrid vehicles, or HEVs, have both a petrol engine and small battery. The battery is said to be ‘self-charging’ meaning that it is usually replenished when decelerating. No plugging in required, simply get in and the car generates power as you drive.
Hybrid vehicles only function in full electric mode while stationary, at low speed or when decelerating. At other times, the battery merely supports the combustion engine to get greater fuel efficiency and reach a range similar to that of regular cars.
Mild Hybrids use a small battery and a clever motor / generator to save fuel and lower emissions. This helps lower your costs without changing how you use your car.
Whether your Kia is a PHEV or EV, you don’t need multiple apps, cards and accounts to charge on the go. Kia Charge lets you access the largest collection of public charging networks in the UK and Europe. Locate a charge point, plan a trip, access and pay - all with just one solution.
Make the best out of your EV and PHEV by charging at home. Having you own charge point installed by one of our preferred partners guarantees the best possible value and convenience.
It’s easy to keep your servicing costs in check with our range of Kia Care and Kia e-Care package. Whether you pay upfront or spread your payments, your costs are fixed for your chosen period and you benefit from the expertise of our extensive network of Kia Repairers.
